Quick Hits Revisited

UPDATE 10:16 AM 7/15/14: Another long-time friend of OMW, Kent State University WKSU/89.7-and-its-many-simulcasters marketing guru Ann VerWiebe, points out that the WEAO outage is also affecting other occupants of that tower, including WKSU, Rubber City Radio country WQMX/94.9 and the University of Akron’s WZIP/88.1.

Ann tells us that WKSU’s Akron signal has to be shut off for obvious reasons when workers are on the tower (ZAP!), so the station switches to its backup tower in Kent. That means the WKSU HD signals are out, since the HD equipment isn’t duplicated in Kent…

Just a very quick note, as Life has once again Intervened(tm), and we have little time…

HEADED FOR THE NATION’S CAPITAL: Congratulations to Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5 “NewsChannel 5” reporter Stephanie Ramirez, who has left 3001 Euclid and Cleveland…bound for a reporter/MMJ gig at Gannett CBS affiliate WUSA/9 in Washington DC…

ALSO DC: Former BET TV host Shorty Da Prince wasn’t in Cleveland long. He came here to claim afternoon drive at Radio One hip hop WENZ/107.9 “Z107.9”.

He has now moved to that very same Washington DC, as night personality at the company’s WKYS/93.9.

Shorty (real name Jordan Johnson) is still on the “Z” schedule, though a click through takes people to a generic Z107.9 page…

OFF AIR: No, it’s not your imagination, readers with digital over-air TV tuners. Western Reserve PBS’ WEAO/49 Akron has been off the air since at least early Friday morning, maybe longer.

The station has acknowledged the outage on its website, in a front page note that the outage doesn’t affect WNEO/45 Alliance…the public TV operator’s Youngstown market signal.

Long-time Friend of OMW Diane Steinert at Western Reserve PBS tells us:

Of course, we had hoped that this outage would be short-lived, but here we are. The crew fixed a section of damaged line at about 680 feet yesterday, but then found another issue higher up. They came down at about 7 PM last night because of fatigue and that storm that rolled in! Work commenced this morning but we’re unable to say at this point how much longer WEAO will be off air.

The outage hasn’t disrupted service at least on our end of the massive Time Warner Cable system, which is presumably is picking up WNEO (the station has done that before)…

AND WE GOTTA GO: More, later. We’re out!
