As expected here and elsewhere, Salem sports talk WKNR/850 Cleveland will indeed pick up FOX Sports Radio to replace the departing ESPN Radio.
Cleveland Plain Dealer sports media columnist Roger Brown reports that the switch happens at “12:01 AM Sunday”. It’s consistent with reports we’ve been getting here quoting FSR personalities hinting at a new Cleveland outpost next week – the network’s “J.T. The Brick” was heard talking about it last night.
How about that timing? OMW realized last night that we’d been off on our guesses. The 90 day notice given to Salem by ESPN Radio means the network will indeed be pulled Sunday – we were counting months, not days, and there are a couple of extra days in there due to the 31 day months of July and August.
OMW also hears that WABQ/1540 has been announcing a move of its gospel format to once co-owned station WBKC/1460 Painesville. D&E Communications recently sold WABQ, of course, to Good Karma Broadcasting…whose Craig Karmazin is expected to flip it to the Cleveland market’s ESPN Radio outlet any day now.
OMW has no word on when THAT part of the shuffle happens, or if 1540, 1300 or whatever combination of frequencies will be the home of “ESPN Cleveland”. There’s also no word if the gospel format’s move to WBKC will uproot the simulcasting of classical outlet WCLV/104.9 Lorain on the Lake County station.
Stay tuned…
