…as it turns out, in an Akron radio studio tonight.
Rubber City Radio oldies WAKR/1590 Akron will host ABC News Radio’s Aaron Katersky tonight, a fact the station has announced frequently during its newscasts this afternoon.
Katersky has been in Akron the past couple of days…talking to Akron-area voters and residents about the presidential election before tonight’s vice presidential debate between Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, and Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware.
Since we’re talking ABC News Radio, we’ve heard the oddity of Northeast Ohio’s ABC Information Network affiliate – MediaCom talk WNIR/100.1 in the Akron market – air the Katersky reports that are coming out of competitor WAKR…and callers to the station’s talk shows have also referenced them.
In addition to doing his hourly updates from the Akron Radio Center, Katersky will also anchor a long-form ABC News Radio special from the WAKR/WQMX/WONE studios…which will follow the network’s live debate coverage.
In addition to WAKR, many local stations will carry the debate.
We have not been able to compile a list, but we suspect it’s a fair bet that just about anything remotely resembling a news/talk radio station will carry the event live tonight. We did hear Clear Channel talk WHLO/640 Akron promote its coverage, and we’ll assume big brother talker WTAM/1100 “The Big One” in Cleveland is also on the debate carriage team tonight. Both are former ABC News Radio affiliates now on Clear Channel’s FOX News Radio affiliate roster.
We haven’t heard them talk about it, but stations like NextMedia talk WHBC/1480 Canton, Clear Channel talk WKBN/570 Youngstown and Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting talk WEOL/930 Elyria are also probably good places to look for the debate this evening.
And many of the stations which had to worry about sports pre-emptions are “in the clear” in this time between the end of Indians season, and the start of Cavaliers season. That would include many of the stations we’ve already listed…
