Daytimer gospel WINW/1520 Canton wasn’t able to turn on their transmitter at all back on Friday morning, and was off the air for several days thereafter, the victim of copper thievery.
The Canton Repository’s police blotter noted that at some point between Thursday night and Friday morning, someone broke into their transmitter facility at 4100 Martindale Road, cut several tower cables and stole the copper from the transmitter building.
Naturally, “Joy 1520” was not able to broadcast throughout much of the weekend, but several OMW tipsters noted that a temporary antenna was in the process of being installed. As of this writing, no word yet if WINW resumed operations just yet.
Canton police are still investigating, and until then, one can hope the thief sees the sad irony of stealing from a gospel station…
