Want To Replace Joe Tait?

The Cleveland Cavaliers have thrown open the door for play-by-play announcers who think they can follow in Joe Tait’s footsteps.

With the ending of Joe’s 39 year run as “Voice of the Cavaliers”, the team has officially announced that it’s accepting applications to replace the veteran announcer. (Well, maybe you can’t really ever “replace” Joe Tait, but someone’s gotta call the games whenever the NBA starts up its next season.)

There’s more, in this article by the Lake County News-Herald’s Bob Finnan:

“We’d like to invite all qualified candidates to apply,” Cavs president Len Komoroski said. “(We have already received) a great mix of impressive broadcasters, but we’d like to also officially encourage anyone that is interested to now apply as we start this important process. We will undergo a deep and thorough review as we search for just the right person to be the new radio play-by-play voice of the Cavs.”

Interested parties can speed their audio and resumes to Cavs broadcast services chief Dave Dombrowski at the Q.

And we do mean speed…as noted in the quote above, the team is certainly already going through a number of submissions.

We’ve said in this corner that we expect Clear Channel talk WTAM/1100 sports director Mike Snyder and former Cavalier Jim Chones to return to the “Joe Tait Perch” next season.

Snyder, the regular Cavaliers Radio Network pre-game/post-game host, and Chones, filled in for Tait in that long stretch where he was recovering from medical issues.

Returning the versatile Snyder to the broadcasts would be a very smart move, and a ensure a smooth transition from the Joe Tait Era.

(For the record, we haven’t heard anything about that possibility…it’s just our speculation.)

But we certainly don’t blame the team for opening up the process, and seeing if there is anyone else out there. And maybe team owner Dan Gilbert has other ideas about his broadcast team, now that Joe Tait is gone…

  1. Great oppurtunity for the “Golden Voice” Ted Williams to work with Snyder and/ or Chones.
