The chief of a small Portage County police department is known far and wide for his Facebook posts. And that may be an understatement…as of this writing, his department’s page has over 150,000 “likes”.
He’s written a book, “No Mopes Allowed”, based on his Facebook contributions.
And Brimfield police chief David Oliver is certainly no stranger to radio appearances as a result…but now, he’s turning pro. Will the “Internet Sensation” become a “Radio Sensation”?
Let’s let the chief announce it from his own Facebook page:
I have a new part-time job. Beginning August 2nd, 2014, I will be hosting a radio show on WNIR 100 FM. The show will air live from 7p-10p, every Saturday. WNIR is a legendary talk radio station in Northeast Ohio…the only all talk FM station in our area. According to Mrs. Chief… I talk a lot, so it seems like a natural fit.
And yes, that means Bob Earley’s weekend replacement – one of two weekend days – is a police chief.
What will the show be like? We’ll turn it over again to Chief Oliver’s Facebook post:
The show format is simple. I will get the show started with some basic topics, usually from things happening in the news or some items that catch my attention. I will lay the topics out, buffet style, and then the callers will take them and run. The show will be guest driven; and all of you are the guests. You can also call in and discuss whatever is on your mind. The thing about this show, as I envision it, it the idea that we are going to return America to being a country of character and determination. We will keep the show clean and family friendly, with solid American values and integrity. It will just be a conversation amongst friends.
And of course, Chief Oliver is keeping his “day job” as Brimfield’s chief.
But what will he do if something really big comes down in Brimfield on a Saturday evening?
Chief Oliver tells us himself, via Twitter, that he’d leave the WNIR studios:
Yep. I have a great crew here, but If the big caper happens, we will head in to the full-time job, as always.
