From Sports To TV To New Radio

The title says it all. And as usual as of late, some of these are brand new, and some are catching up over the past few days... INDIANS STAYING ON WTAM: So, we hinted about this both on our social media presence and earlier this week right here on the blog, on an item we posted last week: "Before we dive into this item, one note: Don’t print those “92.3 The Fan/Indians” bumper stickers just yet..." We got a little "back patting" flack pointing back to this on Twitter, but really, we were far … [Read more...]

A Savage Exit

As we quipped when liberal talk radio network Air America died, this would have been a much bigger story here a few years ago. But with syndicated talk show host Michael Savage making his "triumphant" exit from syndicator Talk Radio Network now, we believe that only affects a single station in the OMW immediate coverage area. Savage declared victory in his contract battle with the Oregon-based TRN, as he was seeking to be released from his deal to pursue deals with other syndicators. From the … [Read more...]

Press Release Theatre (Vol. 6, The Kate And Travis Edition)

A mix of items, with today's new releases and yesterday's favorites...well, not quite. The below items are in no particular "copy and paste" order, and as the title suggests, come from Fox Sports Ohio's Kate Buddenhagen and Time Warner Cable's Travis Reynolds. Before we dive into this item, one note: Don't print those "92.3 The Fan/Indians" bumper stickers just yet... ----------- FOXSportsOhio.com Announces EXTRA POINTS Online show featuring NFL & Browns discussion hosted by Zac Jackson … [Read more...]

Our Big Catchup Post

Yes, we've been gone a while. ("Life Intervenes", you know.) As things settle down a little, we can come up for air and shovel out a lot of items. We'll revisit some items both here and on our social media accounts, and put in some new items as well. A warning...you'll definitely need to bring a lunch for this one... NFL NETWORK, TWC MAKE FRIENDS: Northeast Ohio's Time Warner Cable subscribers didn't have to wait until Thursday to get the long-awaited NFL Network. TWC's Travis Reynolds … [Read more...]

Major League Catchup

No, that's not something the Cleveland Indians are about to try, based on their dismal play as of late. It's something we're going to try now, after an unplanned Life Intervenes(tm) hiatus for about two weeks. (Note: We'll have a planned hiatus for personal reasons, right after the Labor Day holiday. Or, maybe we'll be more active...) Anyway, on with the show... OTHER SHOE DROPS: We already told you that now-former Ohio News Network Cleveland bureau reporter Cristin Severance had found a new … [Read more...]

Youngstown And Nearby

Most of the items this time around are from the Mahoning Valley, though at least one is from nearby...and one item involves the Cleveland market... RICH MORGAN: Readers in the Youngstown/Warren TV market have been peppering our inbox with questions about market veteran Rich Morgan...who's been absent from his duties as morning and noon meteorologist for New Vision-to-be-LIN CBS affiliate WKBN/27's "27 First News". We did some digging, but the question could have more easily been answered (for … [Read more...]

The Week Ender

The week ender, as we head into the weekend... ALBRIGHT TO MIDDAYS: The death of iconic Akron talk radio host Howie Chizek has left a major hole in the schedule of his 38 year home station, Media-Com talk WNIR/100.1 "The Talk of Akron", which is vowing to continue its all-local talk lineup...while faced with the unenviable task of figuring out who will be heard on WNIR, permanently, from 10 AM to 3 PM weekdays. The unfortunate demise of Akron's talk radio king has also presented an opportunity … [Read more...]

Press Release Theatre (Plus), Vol. 2

With two brief non-press release notes... First, new Clear Channel hot AC WKDD/98.1 personality Shannon Steele, back in Akron and at the station which started her career, won't be heard in afternoon drive from 2-7 PM. WKDD has moved her to the morning co-host position mysteriously vacated by Jenn Ryan. She'll co-host "Keith and Shannon" with WKDD program director/CC regional operations manager/OMW reader Keith Kennedy. The second item affects mainly an area we don't really cover anymore, but … [Read more...]

It All Happens At Once

We paused long enough to take a breath or two, and then, six things happened in the space of a day. And we're sure we missed something... LEON'S REDUCTION: A veteran TV anchorman in Cleveland is moving around his work schedule. Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5 "NewsChannel 5" anchor Leon Bibb, who has been anchoring the noon and 6 PM editions of the station's newscasts, is no longer anchoring the 6 PM show as of this week...replaced by Chris Flanagan, the Dallas-Fort Worth anchor the station … [Read more...]

The Awards Post

Local TV and radio broadcasters spent a lot of time in Indianapolis and Columbus this past weekend, picking up awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Great Lakes Chapler (the local Emmy awards), and the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters. Here are the winners for stations and organizations within the OMW primary coverage area. Of course, a number of operations did not enter nominations... ----------- EMMY AWARDS (Only categories with Northeast Ohio winners are … [Read more...]
