UPDATE 9:01 AM 8/7/08: OMW has confirmed that WJW "FOX 8 News" Columbus bureau reporter John Damschroder is a victim of the station's recent round of layoffs, as the station is closing the bureau entirely at the end of the month.We hear out of South Marginal that the bureau's existing photographer will head back to home base in Cleveland.With the WJW bureau closing, will anyone come in and take over a ready-made TV news bureau in the State Capital?We don't know if there's any interest out of … [Read more...]

WVIZ/WKYC DTV Update

OMW reported earlier that Cleveland PBS affiliate WVIZ/25 has a construction permit to co-locate its full-power post-transition digital TV facility with Gannett NBC affiliate WKYC/3.Fellow blogger Frank Macek, WKYC senior director and proprietor of the "Director's Cut" blog over at WKYC.com, picked up on the story and expanded it in a recent item.As it turns out, WVIZ-DT's full-power antenna will not reside atop the current WKYC tower.WKYC and WVIZ will build a new tower at the station's Parma … [Read more...]

Cleveland HD Locals On Dish Network

It's official, according to a Dish Network press release: The company is offering HD "local-into-local" service for the Cleveland market.All of the market's "Big Four" network affiliates are being offered: WKYC/3 (NBC), WEWS/5 (ABC), WJW/8 (FOX) and WOIO/19 (CBS). UPDATE: WEWS Goes HD From Field

They tried it as long ago as October of last year, but now, Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5 "NewsChannel 5" has become the first Cleveland market station to regularly air out-of-studio news field video in HDTV format.OMW hears that after all the glitches were worked out, WEWS' newscasts started featuring the full-resolution 720p recorded video yesterday. Another Sign The TWC Lineup Changes Are Soon

First Of New Time Warner Cable Channels?

OMW has heard through various online sources that Time Warner Cable is launching more HD channels across the country, though apparently not on the same schedule in each area.The first of the new HD wave was TBS-HD, the former WTBS cable feed now split off from its former over-air Atlanta sister station.
