Carucci Exits Browns, Returns To Buffalo

As we write this, it’s just three days from the Cleveland Browns opening day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers…and Cleveland Browns senior editor/”Cleveland Browns Daily” co-host Vic Carucci is getting ready to head out of town.

VicCarucciCarucci is leaving the local NFL team, bound for his old hometown of Buffalo and the job he held a few years before coming to Cleveland…covering the Buffalo Bills for the Buffalo News.

The newspaper writes:

Carucci steps in for Mark Gaughan, who requested a change from full-time Bills coverage after 23 years on the beat. Gaughan will continue to contribute to the Bills beat but will primarily cover college sports.

Carucci will start his new(/old) role on September 24th.

The newspaper says Carucci previously covered the Bills for 17 years, before a stint as a columnist for NFL.com.

The timing certainly seems odd, coming just days before the start of the Browns season. But Carucci could well have seen the opportunity to move back home.

If there’s word on Carucci’s departure from the Browns, we can’t find it on the team’s website…but we have found a game preview article Carucci wrote for the site posted under an hour ago. The team and the site are presumably preoccupied with that game against the Steelers on Sunday:

Carucci did post this on Twitter this morning, just after that article posted:

The news breaking so recently, there’s no word from anyone who will fill Carucci’s shoes in Cleveland…either writing for the Browns, or co-hosting “Cleveland Browns Daily” on the team’s AM flagship, Good Karma sports WKNR/850 “ESPN Cleveland”…

Comments

  1. As per Carrucci’s co-host Nathan Zegura on his twitter page, Carrucci’s going back home for family reasons.

    Nothing sinister or mysterious.

Odds are Michael Reghi (a frequent sub-host on “CBD”, and who hosts Browns produced shows on STO) will take over for Carrucci on the radio.

Not sure about who’ s gonna take over on the website.

  2. How do I apply to co-host “Cleveland Browns Daily” with Nathan Zegura?

    🙂

  3. I just heard this news as I don’t get to listen CBD consistently and I have not listened to podcasts due to Indians making a run. I just got the word listening to CBD while out on errand in the car that Vic is leaving. I will truly miss his presence. Professional, smart, truthful, objective. The Browns were lucky to have a guy like this. These past few dreadful years were only endurable thanks to Vic and Nathan. Browns: “STEP UP AND MAKE A STATEMENT (AND IT BETTER BE GOOD). Nathan: CARRY ON MY MAN. YOUR PASSION, EXCITEMENT AND GAME KNOWLEDGE ARE GREAT. Vic, when I listened to you I felt like I was listening and talking with a good friend. Blessings upon you. Joe Hodges

  4. The wrong guy left.

  5. It would be nice to give jobs to local talent
