BREAKING NEWS: FCC Orders NFL Network Back on Newly Acquired TWC Systems

Broadcasting and Cable reports that the Federal Communications Commission has ordered Time Warner Cable to return the NFL Network to the systems it acquired this week from Adelphia and Comcast cable, pending resolution of the issue by the FCC.

Time Warner shut off the NFL Network feed early Tuesday morning, replacing it locally with a message sending subscribers to the website NFLGetReal.com, with a plea to allow TWC to put the NFL Network on a separate sports tier.

The FCC has also ordered TWC to file its response to the NFL’s petition on the matter quickly, by August 15th.

For its part, Time Warner isn’t happy with the FCC’s order, and issued a statement:

“Time Warner Cable is currently reviewing the FCC’s order regarding the NFL Network. This order was issued without offering us the opportunity to respond to the NFL Network’s allegations. We believe the FCC’s decision is wrong and we are considering our options.”

At this writing, Time Warner has not yet returned NFL Network to digital cable customers in its areas formerly served by Adelphia, at least here in Northeast Ohio…
