An Experimental Blog Post

We’ve received a very mixed response to our “move” to social media.

While we’ve received a flood of new Twitter followers, others are openly hostile to that being the only outlet for Ohio Media Watch. And hostile may not be a strong enough a word.

So, we’ll try this: copying and editing our Twitter posts to a blog post, without all the responses, tags and whatnot.

  1. People are hostile over getting free content that you do completely for free? What a shock! 🙂

*DISCLAIMER: Dear Mr. Vernon: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you’re crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club.*

  2. I urge you not to abandon your blog for the mindless morass that is Twitter.
Journalism is more than 140 character bursts of thought.

  3. I agree with Ross above. Please don’t abandon. Thanks.

Really prefer this format. Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2013 19:30:19 +0000 To: [email protected]

  5. I’ll read it either place (WP or Twitter) ….. I know my blog is set up to post from WordPress to both Twitter and Facebook. I agree it gets to be difficult to manage all social media. Enjoy your work!! Thanks for sharing when you can!

  6. Thanks for doing this.

  7. Paul Bender says

Much prefer the Blog format because I follow you with an RSS feed. Can’t do that on Twitter unless the person does something special with their account, and apparently you haven’t done that. So please stay somewhere that I can get an RSS feed…

    • Thanks for the kind words, Paul. This hybrid format, where we edit together live Twitter updates and bring them into blog form, seems like it’ll work, so we’ve returned the OhioMediaWatch.com domain forwarding back to WordPress.

We’re still not sure if we can do it on the fly while mobile, but if we can’t, we’ll do the copying/editing when we get in front of a full PC (the OMW laptop died years ago).

  8. I think we all should be grateful for all of the hard work that Ohio Media Watch puts into the NE Ohio media scene – more than most traditional news outlets. I personally don’t feel like I have the right to ask someone who is volunteering time to create something just for me.
