Returns And Changes

Some assorted stuff in our Thursday update...PUBLIC EYE RETURN: When long-time CBS Radio AC WDOK/102.1 morning co-host Robin Benzle found herself not waking up Cleveland with Trapper Jack on the station's popular morning show, she lamented that it'd be difficult to find her way back onto the air...as stations seemed to be interested in female hosts who were - as she put it to Plain Dealer media columnist Julie Washington - "giggle queens".There's no such worry about the Internet, where Benzle … [Read more...]

That WKDD AllAccess Ad

UPDATE 4/13/09 10:55 PM: WKDD program director Keith Kennedy has a statement on the below item, which we're reprinting here:-----Obviously, Matt is the fabric of WKDD and my hope is he’ll continue to host mornings on WKDD for a very long time to come. You can’t think of WKDD without thinking of Matt. The re-invention of WKDD mornings in recent months with the addition of Krissy Taylor has brought new life into WKDD, and we’re thrilled with the results. Picking Back Up

Our apologies for the lengthy absence...aside from the Christmas-to-New Year's break we usually take, or an occasional planned hiatus, we're not usually gone that long. But one of our regular phrases here is "Life Intervenes". (If someone uses that for a book or movie title, we want a cut!)So, remember that if we don't update often enough for you...feel free to ask for a pro-rated adjustment to your subscription...WVIZ'S PLANS: Ever since the earlier news that the new WKYC/3 antenna tower was … [Read more...]

Check The Calendar

It's not even noon, and already, we've received about a half-dozen E-mails asking if Clear Channel talk WTAM/1100 Cleveland is planning any programming changes after re-adopting its former "3WE" identity today. We don't blame you for being thrown for a temporary loop.We haven't asked anyone at Oak Tree about it, because it would very much appear to be an April Fools' Day prank by Cleveland's "Big One".WTAM has not only been playing 3WE jingles, its newscasters continue to refer to the station as … [Read more...]

First TWC Northeast Ohio HDTV Wave

As noted in our Twitter update, it does appear that Time Warner Cable's Northeast Ohio division has rolled out the first wave of its coming HD channel lineup expansion. We aren't near the OMW World Headquarters and our own TWC installation, or we'd verify it for ourselves.Anyway, since we've already written about this extensively, with the help of TWC NEO executive Bill Jasso, we'll just put up the company's press release in this space...with thanks to the company's Travis … [Read more...]

Time Warner Northeast Ohio HDTV Plans

It's consistently one of our "most asked" questions here at the Mighty Blog of Fun(tm): When will Time Warner Cable upgrade its HDTV lineup in Northeast Ohio? The answer appears to be "starting soon, over the next few months".Local TWC executive Bill Jasso has been kind enough to put a lot of the information that's already out there together, along with some new information, about channels coming to the TWC Northeast Ohio lineup.Without further ado, here's the list we have from Mr. Jasso, … [Read more...]

From Soup To Nuts

Well, OK...from broadcast (mainly television) to print, from broadcast to cable...here's our latest midweek contribution...REMEMBERING TOM: Your Primary Editorial Voice(tm) has been without full-fledged Internet access for much of the past 24 hours, so we had to resort to posting-by-E-mail for our item on the death of former WKYC/3 personality Tom Haley on Tuesday. We'll confess to once being a regular viewer of WKYC's "Today in Cleveland", the folksy and friendly morning news show that used to … [Read more...]

Thursday’s Here

We've been in one of those writing moods...where we put everything in one daily bag. And it continues...PAUL HARVEY'S NON-REPLACEMENTS: ABC Radio Network has announced the names of the two men who will not replace Paul Harvey. We say that because conventional wisdom would tell us that the late commentator, who passed away Saturday in Arizona at the age of 90, won't actually be replaced permanently. But ABC Radio says the network's Gil Gross and Doug Limerick will provide feeds in the former Paul … [Read more...]
