The Big Hiatus

Due to circumstances beyond our control...oh, you know the drill. We will not be able to regularly update the Mighty Blog of Fun(tm) on a regular basis, at least for some time. We're only putting this message up here so we don't get "where are you, and why haven't you updated?" questions, particularly when there is major media news afoot. (For example, CBS Radio hot AC WQAL/104.1 "Q104" morning co-host Rebecca Wilde's departure from the station next month, leaving reportedly for a travel … [Read more...]

Lots Of Moves

Both physical and format moves dominate our item this evening... BACK HOME AGAIN: An Akron market radio station is back in Summit County this week. And we found out because readers as far north as the Slavic Village area of Cleveland - just south of downtown - are reporting a much stronger signal out of Clear Channel hot AC WKDD/98.1. We hadn't heard anything from Freedom Avenue on this long-awaited move, but sure enough, WKDD is now once again at its former transmitter site on Bellaire Lane … [Read more...]

The Beacon Ohio Empire Sold

OMW hears that a buyer has been found for the two Beacon Broadcasting stations in Ohio, and that a prospective buyer is lining up for the remaining Pennsylvania-based Beacon stations. Chris Lash currently operates non-comm community station WYNS/89.3 "Hybrid FM" in … [Read more...]

Up From Hiatus

Yes, we're still on hiatus. But as per usual when we take a break from the Mighty Blog of Fun(tm), media news breaks out...and then some... TERRY BROOKS: The news spread fast and furious on local TV stations...and off-air, in their newsrooms. We'll let Scripps Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS/5's "NewsChannel 5" report the happenings of this past week involving one of its own employees: WEWS NewsChannel5 weekend sports anchor Terry Brooks was indicted Wednesday on charges of rape, attempted … [Read more...]

Assorted Midweek Stuff

Just enough to clear off our plate as we're heading into midweek... NEWS EXIT: OMW hears that Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5 "NewsChannel 5" assistant news director Roberta Petterson is heading south, for a new gig as news director...at a station that may be in the same state that seems to be attracting Northeast Ohio's professional basketball players lately. (Though it would appear that a certain "King" could have taken lessons from Zydrunas Ilgauskas with his own exit. And if you're just … [Read more...]

Ho Ho Early Christmas

We noted this on our Twitter account last night, but just to put this on the main blog - Clear Channel Canton AC WHOF/101.7 "My 101.7" is spreading the Yuletide Music Cheer...in mid-November."My" is, by the best of our accounting, the first station in Northeast Ohio to take leave of its regular format for Christmas music. Elsewhere in the state, Clear Channel sister AC WLZT/93.3 in the Columbus market, and Pillar of Fire (now, THAT'S a radio company name!) Christian AC WAKW/93.3 "Star 93.3" in … [Read more...]
