A Cozi Laff

There were rumblings that the previously announced “Laff” comedy subchannel would not actually directly replace “Live Well Network” on Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5’s 5.2 subchannel when that home and lifestyle subchannel goes away later this month.

That turns out to be correct, but only because another subchannel network will come to Cleveland on WEWS’ 5.2 subchannel instead.

CoziLogoThe station confirms in an official release that the “Cozi TV” network, another treasure trove of popular reruns, will start this week.

From the release, which oddly enough took a direct route here from 3001 Euclid:

This Wednesday at 10am, NewsChannel 5 will welcome Cozi TV to its digital channel 5.2, taking the place of Live Well Network.

“Cozi will give our viewers some really memorable and iconic shows to enjoy once again,” states Steve Weinstein, NewsChannel 5 VP & General Manager. “Programs like Charlie’s Angels, Murder She Wrote, The Bionic Woman, Fantasy Island, and many others will be on our TV screens to rediscover. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to give northeast Ohioans the best news and entertainment programming across all of our channels and platforms.”

Cozi boasts an impressive lineup of regularly scheduled programs, dozens of movies, and exclusive, original programming. In addition to over the air reception, Cozi will be available on the following cable systems – Time Warner Cable (channel 986), Buckeye Cable (channel 105), Cable Co-op (channel 672), Armstrong Cable (channel 451), Massillon Cable (channel 153), and Wide Open West Cable (channel 192).

The Cozi programming was first spotted by posters on the RadioInsight Community Cleveland board. The reinvention of WEWS 5.2 was seen on various online TV listing sites starting at the now officially announced time of Wednesday at 10 AM.

LAFFAnd “Laff”, a comedy-oriented network started by Katz Broadcasting (the creators of “Grit” and “Escape”), is still coming to WEWS…just not on 5.2:

There’s more exciting digital subchannel news from NewsChannel 5 on the horizon. The station plans to add Laff as its 5.3 channel on April 15th. Laff, a new digital subchannel specializing in comedy programming, will debut in Cleveland and other markets throughout the country. Viewers can expect more information on Laff upon its launch.

  1. Cozi is great and is catching up to ME TV. WE have is here on a LD Channel 25 in Cincinnati.

    • Cleveland will have all the major “retro” networks when this kicks in:

      MeTV (WOIO 19.2)
      Antenna TV (WJW 8.2)
      Cozi (WEWS 5.2)
Retro TV (W16DO-D 16.1 Cleveland, WAOH-CD 29.1 Akron, and apparently to move to WIVM/39.3 when the ThisTV thing shakes out)

  2. Another lame brained idea of making profits by airing old shows. No wonder tv is a backwards looking entity. This isn’t the golden age of tv and Cozi and its comrades
    are unwanted, uninteresting, and uninvited.

Bring back Live Well Network, it was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed most of the programs. It was my go-to channel for ideas and realness. These shows are worth watching.

We don’t need another retro channel. Cozi is now deleted from my tv menu, along with the other live in the past, boring tv channels.

Cozi is another waste of filament on the cable line of life.

    Steve,
Point 1: Memorable and iconic to which audience? Not to the Live Well Network audience. The shows on Live Well were personable, varied, original, and in-the-now.

Cozi is another gimmick channel with old caricatures. Good for your profits, not good for the Live Well watchers.

Time marches on, rediscovering is not really part of the equation. Cozi has to worm its way into the other retro lineups. Soon there will be the Real Mc Coys and Charlies Angels on a dozen channels. Will Live Well come back at that time? Huh.

Point 2: If you are really committed to bringing me the best entertainment you wouldn’t have dropped Live Well for this other channel.

This stupid switch is another reason why most tv is not relevant.

  3. Dawn Peger says

These networks have no idea what original programming is. I miss the Live Well Network already!

  4. I agree with Mrs OR and Dawn Peger. I am a senior and I don’t watch retro shows. Most of those shows were not good even then. I will also delete these two from my channel lineup. I am busy all day so this is my background noise. LiveWell was informative, upbeat. I even learned a few things myself.
What happened to the craft and diy shows? LiveWell was in that vein with current trends. These subjects are big on the internet in blogs and on websites. So there must be an audience for them.
What about a 24 hr newschannel? Local channels show same few stories with lots of needless “fluff” stories between commercials.
Bring back the radar channel. Now that we lost the local weather channel (3.2) we are at the mercy of the channels to keep us up on storms. I can’t carry my tablet everywhere all day. Used to keep that channel on constant during bad weather.
How many channels do we need showing old used programming?

  5. Here is part of the article announcing that Live Well is canceled. WEWS had no choice. Live Well stayed on the air longer so that stations could find a replacement.

“ABC will discontinue its homegrown digi-net Live Well Network in mid-January. Focused on food, fashion and travel, Live Well was viewed as an example of what broadcasters could pull off in the multicast space, with original programming and partner stations both within the ABC owned group and outside of it. But the numbers were not working for ABC.” This is from Broadcasting and Cable in June.

  6. I for one am happy that Cleveland got the COZI network now. The shows they are airing are different from what ME-TV has to offer and, without cable, there isn’t much worth watching on television these days. Even with cable, there isn’t much. You don’t have to be a senior to tell what is good programming and what isn’t ( I’m a college student ). However, I will miss watching FoodRush and Mexico on Saturday afternoons.

  7. The Live Well Channel was one of the few worth watching. Miss it!
